The federal government has approved take-off grants of N2 billion each for the newly established Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja, and the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, Lagos State, to accelerate their early operations and development.

The government also inaugurated the pioneer rector of the polytechnic and principal officers of the university to strengthen leadership and governance in the institutions.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presented certificates of appointment to the officials during an inauguration ceremony in Abuja.

Those inaugurated include Prof. Nosiru Onibon as the pioneer Rector of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja; Dr. Angela Ajala as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE); and Prof. Adeola Oshikoya as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe.

Alausa said the establishment of the institutions goes beyond expanding Nigeria’s tertiary education system, describing them as strategic platforms for national development.

According to him, the move aligns with the administration of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and strengthening national capacity in science, technology and innovation.

He urged the new appointees to provide visionary leadership that would shape the institutions’ growth, while emphasising the importance of strengthening teacher education nationwide through the NCCE.
