National Youth Service Corps members have been advised to be prepared to serve Nigeria honestly and faithfully.

The Chief Judge of Abia State, Honourable Justice Onuoha Kalu Ogwe, who was represented by Hon. Justice Benson Anya handed down this advice while swearing in the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 Corps members in Abia State at the Umunna Bende NYSC Abia Permanent Orientation Camp on Tuesday.
The CJ charged the corpers, “Before anything, be proud of your fatherland; appreciate and cherish the culture, tradition, arts and languages of the nation.
“Be well informed about the history, geography, economy and the resources of Nigeria.
“Regard your fellow Nigerians as your brothers and sisters and yourself as your brother’s helper and keeper.”
The CJ further advised the young graduates to “imbibe the healthy attitude to work and be ready to work in any part of the country.
“Identify yourself with the problems and aspirations of the people of the area you work,” he added.
While urging them to see themselves always as leaders, he advised that they should “confront all difficulties and challenges in a disciplined and self-reliant manner” warning, “shun all forms of corruption and nepotism and be obedient without being sluggish and live up to the ideals of your service year”.
He advised them to be grateful to Nigeria for affording them the opportunity to serve.
In his address, The Director General, NYSC, Brigadier General M.K Fadah said, “My dear compatriots, the Orientation Course is the first Cardinal Programme of NYSC, which is aimed at introducing you to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme”.
Represented by by the State Coordinator, Mr Julius Ekeh, who presided over the event, the DG informed that the orientation was “designed to equip you for the tasks of the Service Year through lessons on Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills and other physical training as well as sensitization on topical national issues, amongst others”.
A total of 1128 corps members were sworn in comprising 582 males and 546 females.
