Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, has formally assumed duty as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of the Federation at the Federal Ministry of Justice.

President Bola Tinubu approved Oyedepo’s appointment in December 2025, following his transfer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the mainstream federal civil service.

He succeeds Abubakar Babadoko, who retired from service on December 31, 2025, after completing the mandatory eight-year tenure as Director.

In a statement issued on Tuesday to mark his resumption, Oyedepo pledged to strengthen Nigeria’s public prosecution system through professionalism, independence, and strict adherence to the rule of law.

The senior advocate expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, for the confidence reposed in him.

He stated that his leadership would prioritise prosecutorial independence, professionalism, and full compliance with the Constitution, stressing that the credibility of the justice system largely depends on the integrity of prosecutorial decisions.

“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming goodwill, prayers, and congratulatory messages following my appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation,” Oyedepo said.

“This appointment is a solemn call to service. Prosecutorial decisions under my leadership will be guided solely by law, evidence, and the public interest, anchored on fairness, diligence, and integrity.

“I look forward to constructive engagement and cooperation as we work together to build a credible, formidable, and future-ready public prosecution system for our nation.”
