The average retail price of petrol in Nigeria surged to ₦1,037.66 per litre in June 2025, up from ₦750.17 recorded in the same month of 2024 — representing a year-on-year increase of 38.32 percent.

This was revealed in the latest Petrol Price Watch report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday in Abuja.

According to the report, petrol prices also saw a month-on-month rise of 0.96 percent, increasing from ₦1,027.76 in May 2025 to ₦1,037.66 in June.

A breakdown by state showed that Jigawa recorded the highest average retail price at ₦1,107.52 per litre, followed closely by Ondo and Lagos at ₦1,104.80 and ₦1,100.29 respectively.

On the other end of the spectrum, Yobe reported the lowest average price at ₦950.60, while Kogi and Imo followed with ₦986.67 and ₦987.86 respectively.

Zonal analysis indicated that the North-West region had the highest average price at ₦1,062.84 per litre, while the North-East recorded the lowest at ₦1,020.15.

In a related report, the NBS also revealed that diesel prices climbed to an average of ₦1,813.81 per litre in June 2025 — a 23.98 percent increase compared to ₦1,462.98 paid in June 2024.

Month-on-month data showed that diesel prices rose by 3.16 percent, up from ₦1,758.26 per litre in May 2025.

Benue State recorded the highest average diesel price at ₦2,541.46 per litre, followed by Adamawa at ₦2,355.32 and Plateau at ₦2,236.42.

Conversely, the lowest prices were seen in Ondo at ₦1,365.71 per litre, Anambra at ₦1,391.02, and Kogi at ₦1,400.00.

Among the geopolitical zones, the South-South recorded the highest diesel price at ₦1,963.86 per litre, while the South-West posted the lowest at ₦1,618.74.
