A total of 4,169 teachers across Nigeria have failed the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

The examination was held nationwide from May 15 to 17, with the results released on Wednesday.

Disclosing the outcome, Dr. Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, TRCN’s Director of Certification and Licensing, said 13,782 candidates registered, but only 12,874 (93.4%) sat for the test, while 908 candidates (6.6%) were absent.

Out of those who took the exam, 8,705 candidates (67.62%) passed, while 4,169 candidates (32.38%) failed.

According to the performance breakdown, Lagos State recorded the highest pass rate with 80%, followed by Edo State (73.3%), Niger State (69.2%), and the Federal Capital Territory (68.3%).

Ezeahurukwe attributed the failure of many candidates to low digital literacy, which negatively affected their performance during the computer-based exam.

She noted that under the leadership of its new Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, the TRCN is launching several initiatives to enhance teachers’ digital skills. These include:

  • Online digital literacy training,
  • Access to curriculum guides, and
  • Past question archives.

Candidates have been advised to check their results via www.fron.gov.ng, www.trcnigeria.ng, or by visiting any TRCN State or Liaison Office.

Successful candidates are urged to proceed with the processing of their certificates and licenses, with the result valid for one year from the date of publication.

Those who did not pass have been encouraged to improve their digital and pedagogical competencies ahead of the next PQE batch, scheduled for November 2025.
