Ogbu on his appointment and assumption of office as Dean of the Faculty of Law, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, expressing confidence that his leadership will further strengthen academic excellence, research, mentorship and professional development within the Faculty.

Prof. Ogbu takes over from the Acting Dean, Rev. Sr. M.C. Onuegbulam, IHM, PhD, whose tenure has come to an end after a period marked by engagement with students, academic development and efforts to strengthen the Faculty.
In its congratulatory message, OBRA Legal described Prof. Ogbu’s appointment as a recognition of his scholarship, experience and commitment to the advancement of legal education.
The firm said it was confident that the new Dean would build on the foundations laid by previous administrations and position the Faculty for greater achievements in legal scholarship, advocacy, research and the training of future members of the legal profession.
“As you take up this important responsibility, we wish you wisdom, strength and remarkable success in building on the achievements of your predecessors and positioning the Faculty for even greater accomplishments,” OBRA Legal stated.
The law firm also commended Rev. Sr. Onuegbulam for her service and contributions during her tenure as Acting Dean, particularly her commitment to students, academic excellence, discipline and continuous learning.
Onuegbulam had earlier informed students of the Faculty that Prof. Ogbu would take over as Dean, while reflecting on her own period of service.
She described her time as Acting Dean as one of the greatest honours and defining experiences of her professional life and expressed appreciation to students for their cooperation, resilience, intellectual rigour, courage and commitment to excellence.
She particularly acknowledged students’ achievements in academics, sports, moot court activities and service, noting that their accomplishments brought pride to the Faculty.
The outgoing Acting Dean also praised past and present leaders of the Law Students’ Association, LAWSA, class representatives and other student leaders for what she described as their responsible representation and cooperation throughout her administration.
While stepping aside from the leadership position, Onuegbulam assured students that her relationship with them would remain intact, stressing that she would continue to relate with them as a teacher, mentor and well-wisher.
She urged them to extend the same support and loyalty given to her administration to Prof. Ogbu, emphasising the importance of collective responsibility in building the Faculty.
“Together, we stand to build our Faculty,” she told the students.
Onuegbulam also charged the students to protect the integrity and reputation of the Faculty, remain committed to academic excellence, support younger colleagues and continue learning beyond the attainment of their university degrees.
She further reassured students preparing for the Nigerian Law School that plans were in place concerning their transition and encouraged them to trust the process.
The Law Students’ Association of Nigeria, ESUT Faculty of Law, also expressed appreciation to Onuegbulam for her service while welcoming Prof. Ogbu to the leadership of the Faculty and wishing him a successful tenure.
OBRA Legal, in its message to the incoming Dean, said the Faculty occupies an important place in the development of future legal practitioners and expressed hope that Prof. Ogbu’s administration would continue to produce graduates who are intellectually sound, professionally competent and committed to justice and service to society.
The firm added that leadership of a Faculty of Law goes beyond academic administration to shaping the values, professional orientation and intellectual development of students who will eventually serve on the Bench, at the Bar, in academia, public service and other areas of national life.
