The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Chief Tony Okocha as the legitimate Chairman of the party in Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC dismissed claims by Mr. Emeka Beke to the chairmanship, urging members of the public to disregard what it described as “false and misleading” assertions.
The clarification comes in response to a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, where Beke claimed to still be the substantive chairman of the Rivers APC.
“The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to media reports of a claim by Mr. Emeka Beke to the Chairmanship of the Rivers State chapter of our Party,” Morka stated.
“We wish to clarify, for the record, that Chief Tony Okocha is, and remains, the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of our Party.”
The party reaffirmed that Chief Okocha’s leadership is backed by the national secretariat and urged its members in Rivers and beyond to continue to recognize and support his authority.
“We urge our teeming members in the state, and the general public, to disregard the said reports or references to Mr. Beke as State Chairman of Rivers APC as false and misleading,” the statement concluded.
