A fire broke out on Saturday morning on the fourth floor of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office located at 15, Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Sikiru Akinola, and also posted on the agency’s official X account.

According to the statement, the fire was promptly detected by security personnel on duty, who immediately took steps to contain the situation before it escalated. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, alongside other emergency responders, arrived swiftly and successfully brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

FIRS confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. However, several offices on the affected floor sustained damage.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault, though a full inquiry is ongoing,” the statement said.

The service disclosed that it has commenced a review of its internal safety protocols and is taking steps to strengthen preventive measures to avoid a recurrence.

FIRS also expressed appreciation to the emergency services and its staff for their quick and coordinated response, which ensured the safety of employees and helped minimise property damage.
