Renowned Nigerian billionaire, elder statesman, and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has passed away at the age of 94.

His death was confirmed on Saturday morning by his Personal Private Secretary (PPS), Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, who shared a message stating: “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings. The Janazah details will be shared later, Insha Allah.”

Family sources disclosed to our correspondent that Dantata died in the early hours of Saturday after a prolonged illness attributed to old age. His burial is expected to take place later today in accordance with Islamic rites.

Born on May 19, 1931, in Kano, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata was a towering figure in Nigeria’s business landscape. He made his mark through vast investments in finance, real estate, and the petroleum sector, and remained one of the most respected businessmen in Northern Nigeria.

Beyond his business accomplishments, Dantata was widely admired for his philanthropic initiatives, particularly in the areas of education, youth empowerment, and skill acquisition. He was known to have donated generously to causes that uplifted underprivileged communities and provided opportunities for thousands across the country.

Dantata also played a significant role in public service and national development. He served in various capacities in the Kano State government and was a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee that prepared Nigeria’s 1979 Constitution.

A devout Muslim, he was deeply involved in the promotion of Islamic values and supported numerous religious initiatives throughout his life. His contributions to the growth of Islam, especially in Northern Nigeria, are widely acknowledged.

In Kano and beyond, he was known as a bridge-builder and peace advocate, often working behind the scenes to foster unity among businessmen and political leaders.

Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata leaves behind a legacy of enterprise, generosity, and patriotism. He is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, many of whom have followed in his footsteps in business and philanthropy.

May his soul rest in peace.
