The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has unveiled the top-performing candidates in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with an aspiring medical student emerging as the overall best.

Topping the list is Owoeye Daniella Jesudunsin from Ekiti State, who emerged as the highest scorer in the 2026 UTME with an outstanding 372 marks. The Ekiti-born candidate selected the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as her first choice, where she hopes to study Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).

Ranking second is Enwere Kingsley Ikenna of Imo State, who scored 370. He chose Nile University of Nigeria as his preferred institution, with a focus on Computer Science.

In the third position is Bamisile Ayomide Emmanuel of Ondo State, who secured 369 marks. He selected the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), where he intends to study Software Engineering.

A cluster of five candidates tied at fourth position with 368 marks each. They include Olabiyisi Olanrewaju Oluwatimileyin of Oyo State, who chose the Pan-Atlantic University for Mechatronics Engineering; Victor-Onyeka Daniel Ifeanyi of Imo State, who opted for the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), where he plans to study Electrical/Electronic Engineering; Osagiobare Daniel Osaherumwen of Edo State, who selected the University of Benin (UNIBEN), aiming for Mechanical Engineering; Ademiluyi Adebowale Anthony of Osun State, who chose the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to study Computer Engineering; and Azike Kenechukwu Anthony of Anambra State, who selected the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), for Software Engineering.

Rounding off the list of top performers are three candidates who scored 367 marks each. Offorike Michael Okechukwu of Abia State chose the University of Ibadan (UI) as his first choice to study Computer Science; Adebisi Eniola Sonari of Ogun State selected Covenant University for Computer Science; while Umukoro Gift Oghenevovwero of Delta State opted for the Pan-Atlantic University to study Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

The 2026 UTME top performers reflect a notable concentration of interest in technology-related disciplines, with Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering dominating the choices of the highest-scoring candidates. Medicine and Surgery, however, remained the preferred course of the overall best candidate.

The release of the top 11 candidates by JAMB has continued to draw attention to the rising academic competitiveness among Nigerian secondary school leavers, as well as the growing preference for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines among the country’s brightest minds.
