Chief Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo, Chairman/CEO of Seahorse Lubricant Industries Ltd, has rewarded Prince Ugochukwu Orji, a Nigeria Immigration Officer, with a ₦5 million cash gift for his gallantry in apprehending a notorious ritual killer despite being offered a bribe of ₦15 million.

The emotional presentation took place at Chief Onunkwo’s country home in Umuabo, Ihembosi, Anambra State, where the officer was hosted and celebrated for his uncommon courage and devotion to duty.
Prince Ugochukwu Orji, an officer serving at the Nigeria–Benin Republic border and a native of Abia State, had intercepted Mr. Levi Obieze (alias Mazi Ezeani), an Enugu-based fugitive wanted for serial ritual killings, including the burial of victims alive.
According to Orji, the suspect attempted to evade justice by offering him escalating sums of money – starting at ₦3 million and rising to ₦15 million – in exchange for his freedom. Orji declined each offer, discreetly stalled for time, and confirmed the suspect’s identity with his superior before arresting him.
“I confronted him with a wanted poster,” Orji recounted. “He claimed it was his brother’s photo. Then came the bribes — ₦3m, ₦7m, ₦10m, then ₦15m — which he and his wife offered. I played along just long enough to secure his arrest and recovered incriminating voice notes from his phone.”
Chief Onunkwo, visibly moved by the officer’s heroism, praised Orji for embodying the values Nigeria desperately needs.
“Nigeria still has heroes,” he said. “Ugochukwu stood for justice when money tried to buy silence. In a society where many are tempted to betray their conscience, he chose to uphold the law. He has restored hope in our institutions, and Seahorse is honouring him to promote the culture of integrity and accountability.”
The industrialist further called on the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Federal Government to officially promote and commend Orji, stating that national transformation begins with the celebration of ethical leadership.
“Our country must start honouring men and women who choose integrity over impunity. I urge the authorities to consider a national award or promotion for this young officer. Let his story inspire thousands more.”
Dr. Onunkwo also charged civil society organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to amplify the story of Orji as a campaign for moral rebirth and ethical governance.
“Justice must be served. And those who protect the truth, like Ugochukwu, must never go unrecognised,” he said. “Let the nation take this as a moment to remind ourselves that there is still hope — because there are still people who refuse to sell their conscience.”
