The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has released the names and details of inmates who fled from the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre in Niger State.

The database of the escaped inmates including detailed information about them is aimed at assisting law enforcement agents and the public in identifying and locating them.

Recall that a total of 119 inmates escaped from the Niger State prison on April 24, following a relentless heavy downpour that caused significant damage to the prison facility, resulting in a breach of the perimeter fence, and thereby allowing the inmates to escape.

After the incident, 13 inmates were recaptured on April 25.

Speaking at a joint press briefing of the security, defence and response agencies, at the defence headquarters in Abuja on June 6, the NCoS spokesperson, Abubakar Umar, had said that 23 escaped inmates had been recaptured.

Umar assured that the NCoS was committed to releasing the pictures of the fleeing inmates to aid in their identification and recapture.

He said, “I want to say here that there is a concerted effort by the service to recapture fleeing inmates. I want to put on record that we have been able to recapture 23 escapes, so far.

“I want to also assure you that we are working hard to release the pictures of the fleeing inmates.”

On Saturday, it was discovered on the website of NCoS that the Service has published the details of only 18 out of the 96 fleeing inmates.

According to the details on the Service’s website, escaped inmates whose names and details were published include Ogbonna Kingsley, Auwal Mohammed, Mustapha Ibrahim, Suleiman Sani, Raphael Kingsley, Abdullahi Babangida, Idris Bashir, Umar Mustapha, and Ayuba Obidience.

Others are; Lamido Gambo, Garba Fidelis, Mohammed Jibrin, Sylvester Allison, Albert Israel, Edoga Okwudili, Olaiya Stephen, Audo Usman and Ibrahim Aminu.
