“No age has known so much, and so many different things, about man as ours and no age has known less than ours what man is”. The above assertion the German philosopher Martin Heidegger to the fore again, the perennial philosophical question, Who is Man?

The question brings into a single frame of reference the concepts of Natural Law and Human dignity. Natural law provides the framework for understanding and guiding human behavior in private and public life in vew of human perfection. Dignity, on the other hand, is an inherent and inalienable worth of every human being solely on an account of being human. According to Thomas Aquinas, human dignity is the goodness of a person on account of himself or herself. Hence, it serves as a foundational principle in ethical and legal frameworks globally concerning how human beings should be known and treated.

As our contemporary society grapples with complex ethical, professional, social, economic, political, legal, and technological problems affecting human dignity, the Institute of Humanities (IOH) Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, in partnership with the School of Law, Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya, sets the stage, through an international conference, for a multidisciplinary conversation on the idea of natural and human dignity.

The conference, first of its kind in Nigeria, aims to bring together scholars, policy makers, economists, lawyers, journalists and Tech experts, to rob minds with a view to generating actionable ideas to better protect human dignity in our time. The theme of the conference is: “Application of Natural Law Principles and Methods to Addressing Contemporary Issues Affecting Human Dignity in Social, Business, Political, Legal and Technological Contexts”.
