NBA Publishes Guidelines For Payment Of 2023 Bar Practicing Fees By Members

In a publication made available to TheNigeriaLawyer by the NBA National Treasurer, Carolone Ladidi Anze-Bishop, the 2023 Bar Practicing Fee for Lawyers commences from the 1st of January 2023 and 31st of March, 2023.

According to a release by the Association : Members of the Inner-Bar and Body of Benchers are to pay a one-time fee of Fifty Thousand (N50, 000) Naira, whereas practitioners of above 15 years standing is to pay an aim of Twenty-five Thousand (N25, 000) Naira, only.

NOTICE AND STEPS TO PAY THE 2023 BAR PRACTICING FEES (BPF)

Distinguished Colleagues,

Happy New Year; I congratulate you for making it into the New year.

May I respectfully bring to your attention that the annual Bar Practicing Fee payable by all lawyers enrolled at the Supreme Court is now due and must be paid between today, 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2023.

Suffice it to point out that aside the customary two (2) free packs of 24 NBA stamp & seal attendant upon payment of BPF as and when due, other benefits akin to the timeous payment of BPF include but are not limited to :-

* An Automatic Insurance policy with Leadway Assurance Scheme.

* National Health insurance scheme (NHIS)benefit privilege

* Requirement for Notary Public Status Application.

* Requirement for the Application for the Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rank (SAN) Application.

* Eligibility to vote at NBA and Branch elections.

* Eligibility to run for NBA and Branch Elections.

* Eligibility for the receipt of the letter of good standing and much more.

The schedule of Bar Practicing fees per year of Call is as follows:

Senior Advocates & Honorable Benchers – N50,000

Legal Practitioners of 15 Years & above post-call-N25,000

Legal Practitioners of 10-14 Years post call- 17,500

Legal Practitioners 5-9 Years post call – 10,000

Legal Practitioners of 1-4 Years post call- N5,000.

Payment for the BPF can only be made via the NBA Portal. And both individual and group payments are enabled.

HOW TO MAKE BPF PAYMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS

1. Visit the NBA website: https://nigerianbar.org.ng

2. On the website, locate and click on the tab “Membership” and then scroll down to “BPF Payment and click on the same.

3. Select the individual payment option and type in your Supreme Court Number (SCN).

4. Upon entering your SCN, select Pay BPF and your details will auto – populate.

5.Send OTP to your email, check your inbox or spam to copy and input the OTP to proceed as this is compulsory to ensure you receive receipts on your personal email as no two members can share same email address on the portal.

NOTE: To update your Email or Phone Number, click “Change” input the new details, send OTP and confirm OTP to Update.

6.Select Your Branch

7. Select the Payment Year for which you are making payments.

8. Indicate Payment Category if you are a NON-SAN, SAN or Bencher.

9. Click on “Make Payment.” Proceed to the payment page input your payment details.

Please note: E-mail, Phone No, Branch, Payment Year and Payment Category are compulsory.

Upon successful payment NBA receipt will be sent to your earlier confirmed email.

Click on Download button to download your receipt in PDF Format.

If the transaction fails you will be notified right there on the payment page and you will have to restart the whole process again.

HOW TO MAKE BPF PAYMENT FOR Groups

1. Visit the NBA website: https://nigerianbar.org.ng

2. On the website, locate and click on the tab “Membership” and then scroll down to “BPF Payment and click on same.

3.Select the Group payment option and input the Initiator’s detail and confirm email.

4. Input the SCN, select Pay BPF and the details will auto – populate.

5.Send OTP to the email, ask members of group to check their inbox or spam to copy and input the OTP to proceed as this is compulsory to ensure they receive receipts on their personal emails as no two members can share same email address on the portal.

NOTE: To update your Email or Phone Number, click “Change”, input the new details, send OTP and confirm OTP to Update.

6.Select their Branch.

7. Select the Payment Year for which you are making payments.

8. Indicate Payment Category if it’s a NON-SAN, SAN or Bencher.

9. Click on “Add to Cart.”
Repeat the same process for up to 25 users per session.

10. Click on checkout when you have added all the members you are making group payment for. Proceed to the payment page and input your payment details.

Please note: E-mail, Phone Number, Branch, Payment Year and Payment Category are compulsory.

Upon successful payment, NBA receipt will be sent to initiator earlier confirmed email and the individual email of all members in the group payment.

Click on Download button to download your receipt in PDF Format.

If the transaction fails you will be notified right there on the payment page and you will have to restart the whole process again.
