President Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointments of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three-year term.

The two media executives were first appointed by the President on October 20, 2023, and their renewed tenures will take effect from October 20, 2026.

Dembos, who hails from Yola, Adamawa State, is a veteran broadcaster and former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union.

He began his career with the NTA as an announcer at the Kaduna station after completing his National Youth Service in 1989.

Over the years, he rose through the ranks and served in several senior capacities within the organisation.

Dembos was at various times General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.

He later served as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre before retiring in 2017.

Following his retirement, he returned to the organisation as Executive Director of Marketing before his appointment as Director-General in 2023.

Ali Mohammed Ali, on the other hand, is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than three decades of experience in journalism and media administration.

He has shown particular interest in the evolution of the media industry, digital content development and adapting news delivery to the changing needs of diverse audiences.

Ali holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Bayero University, Kano.

He also obtained a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University.

In renewing their appointments, Tinubu urged both chief executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by continuing to demonstrate commitment to the mandates of their respective organisations.

The President also charged them to ensure that the NTA and NAN continue to support effective public communication and the promotion of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The renewed appointments will see Dembos continue to lead the country’s national television broadcaster, while Ali remains at the helm of the federal news agency for another three years.
