A fire outbreak at the National Assembly complex on Wednesday afternoon, around 3:50 pm, prompted some members of the House of Representatives and their legislative aides to abruptly shut down their offices located in the White House part of the complex.

The fire, which occurred in Room 352 Electrical Panel room (ELV Room) on the Third Floor of the New Building, caused pandemonium among those present at the scene. Nigerian Tribune correspondent, who visited the site of the inferno, confirmed the location and time of the incident.

In response to the outbreak, officers from the Fire Service stationed within the complex swiftly deployed their expertise to gain access to the usually locked room, which is under the control of the Electrical Department. To effectively curtail the spread of the fire, the electrical connections across the New Building, including the lifts, were shut down.

The unrest caused by the inferno led to the abrupt suspension of operations by banks and other business entities located in the New Building. As of the time of filing this report, Fire Service personnel were actively searching for the electrician on duty to ensure that all electrical connections were properly controlled and secured.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety measures and emergency preparedness within the National Assembly complex. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage caused by the outbreak.
