The wife of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, Zeenat El-Zakzaky, who is currently in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service has tested negative for Coronavirus, the authorities of the Service have said.
Recall that Zeenat El-Zakzaky who has been in incarceration with her husband and leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria was said to have contracted the infection while in custody prompting a call for her evacuation to a National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) isolation centre, although this order was later reversed.
Not convinced with the purported infection story, the Correctional Service insisted on conducting COVID-19 test in collaboration with the state government, her personal physician and NCDC.
Public Relations Officer of NCoS, Mr Francis Enobore, in a statement, on Monday, in Abuja, said the Service is delighted that the test result which has been released turned negative for the virus.
Enobore said, “Happily, the test result has been released and the inmate, including her contacts, have no trace of COVID-19 virus.
“It is important to state with emphasis that Zeenat El-Zakzaky never contracted COVID-19 infection as was alleged.
“The Acting Controller-General of Corrections, John Mrabure wishes to express his deep appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation in obeying the restriction guidelines to custodial centres.
“He assures the public that the service will continue to observe the COVID-19 protocols and strengthen her effort to prevent the virus from getting into any custodial centre,” Enobore said.
