Can Customer Request For Disconnection Of Electricity From His Premises.

Like any other goods and services, electricity is a product and its supply is a service. Use of electricity is not by force, it is your right to reject it and demand for a disconnection. Where you desire a disconnection from electricity, you have to communicate the electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) in charge of your area. And, the said DisCo will disconnect you but if there are other occupants in your premises that might be affected, the DisCo must seek for the consent of such occupants before a disconnection.
From the day of a customer’s requests for disconnection from a DisCo, such DisCo cannot charge bills on the customer’s premises.

My authorities are Regulations 8 and 14 of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Connection and Disconnection Procedures for Electricity Services, 2007.
