Residents and motorists were left stranded on Saturday after heavy rainfall triggered flash flooding across several parts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, submerging vehicles, disrupting movement and forcing some businesses to close.

Among the areas badly affected were parts of Wuse 2, including Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, the vicinity of Delight Event Centre in Gudu and Efab Estate in Lokogoma.
The bridge linking Gaduwa and Durumi was also heavily flooded, leaving motorists unable to move freely through the area.
Floodwaters covered sections of major roads, with some vehicles reportedly submerged or damaged as residents struggled to navigate the affected routes.
A video shared by a resident showed the Ebeano-Gudu road and the bridge connecting the two areas covered by floodwater, effectively cutting off movement from both directions.
Appealing to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory for intervention, the resident said: “Dear Honourable Minister of the FCT, please come to our rescue. This is the current situation of Ebeano/Gudu Road. The bridge is flooded.

The latest flooding comes amid repeated warnings by relevant government agencies over the risk of severe flooding during the 2026 rainy season.
The Nigeria Meteorological Agency had warned of increased flood risks, while the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency cautioned that flooding could worsen between August and September.
The Federal Capital Territory was among areas identified as facing a high risk of flooding, with Abuja also highlighted as particularly vulnerable to flash floods.
The Federal Government has similarly urged Nigerians to prepare for increased flooding, warning that heavier and more intense rainfall can overwhelm drainage systems and expose vulnerable communities to sudden flooding.
Saturday’s incident has renewed concerns over drainage infrastructure, urban development and flood preparedness across the capital, particularly as the rainy season enters its peak period.
Abuja has experienced similar incidents in the past. In September 2025, flash flooding was reported around the Asokoro-Guzape axis after heavy rainfall, prompting warnings to motorists to avoid affected roads.
