Real Madrid have fined Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni €500,000 each following a dressing-room fight at the club’s training ground.

The incident occurred on Thursday after a training session and led to disciplinary proceedings against both players.

In a statement, Real Madrid said Valverde and Tchouameni appeared before a disciplinary panel on Friday, where they showed “total repentance” over the incident and apologised to each other.

The club added that both players also apologised to Real Madrid, their teammates, the coaching staff and the fans, and accepted whatever sanction the club considered appropriate.

“In view of these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial penalty of five hundred thousand euros on each player, thus concluding the corresponding internal procedures,” the club said.

The altercation reportedly started after a strong tackle by Valverde on Tchouameni during training. After the session ended and the players returned to the dressing room, Tchouameni was said to have confronted Valverde. The confrontation reportedly escalated from a verbal exchange into a physical fight.

During the altercation, Valverde fell and hit his head on a table in the changing room. He was later taken to hospital for medical assessment.

Real Madrid subsequently confirmed that Valverde suffered a head injury, medically described as “cranioencephalic traumatism,” after tests conducted by the club’s medical department.

The club said the Uruguayan midfielder was in good condition but would be sidelined for 10 to 14 days in line with medical protocols.

The incident was said to be the second altercation between Valverde and Tchouameni in two days, coming just before Real Madrid’s Clasico clash with Barcelona.

It also comes amid reports of recent tension within the Real Madrid dressing room. Kylian Mbappe was reportedly involved in an angry exchange with a staff member during a training exercise before the club’s 1-1 draw at Real Betis on April 24, while Antonio Rudiger was also said to have had a heated argument with a teammate at the training ground last month, for which he later apologised.
