The federal government has assured students, parents and guardians of safety as it announces nationwide reopening of all federal unity colleges for academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026 as scheduled.

The Federal Ministry of Education, in a statement on Friday, noted that necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a safe, peaceful and seamless commencement of the new academic session.

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remained a priority of the federal government.

Alausa said relevant security agencies had been duly informed of the resumption arrangements and would maintain heightened vigilance around the Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.

According to him, the coordinated security measures are intended to safeguard students, staff and members of the wider school communities as academic activities resume across the country.

The minister, therefore, urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with preparations for their children and wards to return to school on Monday.

He also directed authorities of the Federal Unity Colleges to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure orderly and secure resumption.

Alausa called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together to maintain peaceful and supportive school environments.

He stressed that protecting students and ensuring their wellbeing was a shared responsibility among all stakeholders.

The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure the smooth and safe resumption of academic activities in the colleges.

Government’s assurance came amid concerns over the security and operational situation surrounding some Federal Unity Colleges.

The ministry said its commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment remained part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The ministry, through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, urged students, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public to remain confident in the arrangements for the new session.
