A member of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, is dead.

The announcement was made on Saturday by the House Spokesman, Akin Rotimi, who disclosed that the lawmaker passed away on Friday evening in Abuja after a period of illness. He was 66 years old.

Hassan represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State and served as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary. He was elected into the National Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

In a statement, the House described his death as a profound loss to the legislature, his constituents, and the nation, noting that Nigeria has lost a seasoned Legislative Counsel and Legal Draftsman whose work significantly shaped legislative development and constitutional processes.

Before joining partisan politics, Hassan had a long career within the National Assembly bureaucracy, rising through the ranks to become a Permanent Secretary. His experience and institutional knowledge were said to have enriched parliamentary debates and committee work.

As a legislator, he served on several committees, including Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties, Protocols and Agreements, where he contributed to legislative oversight and policy development.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, extended condolences to Hassan’s family, the people of Kano State, and his colleagues, describing him as a dedicated public servant known for professionalism, humility, and commitment to nation-building.

The late lawmaker will be buried on Saturday, April 11, in accordance with Islamic rites.
