By Abiodun Awolaja

ON a tactical night that saved a civilization in 1840, Ibadan forces led by Balogun Oderinlo sacked the Fulani camp in Osogbo. The invaders, already installed in Ilorin after having snatched the land using Islamic theology, wanted the rest of Oodua land, helped by its internal divisions. They had a powerful cavalry, but the horses proved useless in the darkness. The would-be conquerors, straddled between Earth and dreamland, fell in droves, and no drop of water helped on that night of rage: the Ibadan warriors had poisoned the water sources.

Oderinlo and his men fought hard because they knew the consequence of failure: death and slavery. That is what is still at stake today, but what we have are politicians in uniform sending other people’s children on death errands. In the days gone by, Generals fought with their children in tow: the children were not nestled between pillows and prostitutes in alien lands. Long before Oderinlo’s men cut a path through the forest, General Vespasian had campaigned with his son Titus in Judea. It was before Titus—Vespasian had been recalled to Rome to claim the crown– that Jerusalem fell in 70 AD.

Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan (Soja Boy), a Nigerian soldier weary with the wastage of young souls in the North-East, touched the raw nerves of the Establishment when he urged Nigeria’s political class to ensure personal investment in the war. Hear the words that sent him out of the Nigerian Army: “In this country, we have 36 governors, senators, ministers. Let each one of them bring their son to join the Nigerian Army…not even as officers, but as other ranks, so that they can come and witness what we dey witness…This killing is too much!” The corporal was handcuffed all night right there in the bush, then dumped in an Abuja cell, immobile, for a month. Even when he had been sacked, he was still detained. He has now found solace in music, and has released an unbeatable track chanting “Mo ti le won pa,” (I’ve hunted them down), a tune that will resonate with soldiers as they hunt down the enemies of State.

Soja Boy was treated like a terrorist for violating social media policy, but the men who slaughter Nigerians in the name of a god and an ideology have the cover of amnesty. CDS Olufemi Oluyede, Nigeria’s Number One uniformed power, preached the theology of forgiveness recently at a military event in Abuja: “These are Nigerians, and it is important for us to give them that window to repent. Even in the Bible, the prodigal son was given an opportunity to come back. Rather than pushing them to the extreme where it is either we kill you or you continue in what you are doing, it is important to allow them that window to repent and be useful to society.” Oluyede was speaking of Nigeria’s de-radicalisation programme, but his theology is false. The prodigal son was not a bloodthirsty killer, and the Bible that he references with approbation prescribes the death sentence for killers. (Numbers 35:31, Romans 1:29-32). In Nigeria, terrorists get amnesty while the families of their victims get tears and sorrow.

For how long will the authorities use soldiers vastly outnumbered by terrorists as community bullet proof in the North-East? For how long will military chiefs be handcuffed by politics? Just how can a terrorist kill soldiers, then go home to have sex with his slaves? That would not have happened in the old Oyo Empire: he would have been pounded and his head crushed. If terrorists just had another orgy of military killing in Borno, it is because the Nigerian State permits them to do so.

When these bloodthirsty killers ask for “messi”, a true soldier would tell them he is a Cristiano Ronaldo fan. If Ibadan warriors had shown such mercy, there would have been no Yoruba kingdom today. Ilorin flirted with the enemy and paid the price in blood and tears. Those who tried to make us slaves yesterday are still busy at their duty post, wreaking havoc everywhere…

Why bring a terrorist to court to be freed by judicial bandits? Why not tie them to a tree in the forest and give them a burning passage to hell? Why not use hammers to crush their teeth? Why not batter them with bayonets, and feed them to crocodiles? Or tie them together and crush them with armoured vehicles? It is a zombie military that spares terrorists. When true soldiers catch terrorists, they slice off their ears first. They break terrorists’ bones, so they will never be a credible threat to anyone ever again. They show mercy by killing them with swords instead of bullets.

If you can bear it, you can search the internet for this news item: “Fulani bandits kill residents of Mbalom, Gwer East LGA, Benue State.” The gory images are on the social media platform, Nairaland, and other platforms. You will shudder at what these bloodthirsty killers did to innocent citizens. They literally butchered them, yet the decisioners of this country are either offering mercy to terrorists or justifying their failure to protect innocent citizens. The rogues called governors get billions monthly as security votes but they have not empowered even vigilantes. The following is from Christian Daily International: “Fulani terrorists killed 12 Christians in attacks on two worship services on Easter Sunday (April 5) in Kaduna state, Nigeria, following the killing of 17 Christians in Benue state, sources said. The attackers, who have been identified as Fulani bandits, were in large numbers.”

The IGP is busy proclaiming the illegality of private citizens bearing arms, yet Fulani murderers are busy committing orgies of violence across the country, proving that the government prioritizes their lives over and above those of law-abiding Nigerians. Day in, day out, these murderers kill, rob and rape at will. Instead of properly arming Amotekun, the Federal Government merely speaks of decentralized policing. The governors of the North Central, North-East and other zones twiddle their thumbs as terrorists literally wipe out their people. They go all over creation collecting media awards while their people die in droves.

These governors are beasts. They have no soul. They have no compassion. They love the sight of blood and mutilation; otherwise they will go after these bastards. What an abominable cast of rogues!

State police, or better still police reform should rightly come on board. The Northern Governors are not ready to form any joint security outfits like the SouthWest Amotekun or South -East (Ebubeagu). They have been foot-dragging on this, and lots of havoc had been recorded! One hopes that the current Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, starting off State Police with 60 percent existing current force would work, with additional employment to them later on as ‘proposed’.
