Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday, March 6, at Eha-Amufu and Umuhu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Enugu State, arrested a suspected notorious Eastern Security Network (ESN) commander, Sabastine Odo Odam, and Ejike Daniel, a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola via his X handle.

According to the post, security sources revealed that the arrest followed months of sustained intelligence gathering on the activities of the suspects. The arrests came on the heels of a series of violent attacks on police stations and killings between 2024 and 2026, all in Isi-Uzo LGA.

“Both men have confessed to being masterminds of a chain of attacks on police stations and carting away of weapons. The attacks include the February 26 killing of 11 labourers and that of five policemen between December 24, 2025, and January 26, 2026.”

“The arrests represent a major success for the DSS in the fight against insecurity in the southeast and the country at large,” remarked the source.

Residents of Isi-Uzo LGA expressed excitement as news of the arrests filtered in. Many noted that the arrests will restore some peace to the affected communities.

Both suspects are currently in the custody of the DSS and awaiting arraignment in court, the source added.

Also, Troops of the 82 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army, under Operation Eastern Sanity have rescued 12 kidnapped victims in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to a statement posted on the Army’s verified X handle on Saturday, the rescue operation that led to the rescue of the victims was carried out on Friday, March 6, 2026, following a distress call reporting the abduction of several residents by suspected kidnappers.

Acting swiftly on the alert, the troops mobilised in collaboration with police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch to the suspected hideout where the victims were believed to have been taken.

On arrival, the security team launched aggressive search operations and fighting patrols across the area in a bid to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.

According to security sources, the suspected kidnappers, apparently overwhelmed by the rapid response and superior firepower of the troops, abandoned their captives and fled the scene.

The troops immediately pursued the fleeing suspects while securing the area.

During a subsequent sweep of the location, all the 12 kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed.

Two suspects linked to the abduction were also arrested during the operation and are currently being interrogated to help security agencies track down other members of the criminal gang.

Meanwhile, troops of Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified patrols and surveillance across the area to prevent further criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.

As the operatives approached the kidnappers’ hideout, the suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a fierce gun battle that lasted for over one hour and thirty minutes.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the police said the operatives eventually overpowered the kidnappers through superior tactics and firepower.

“Suspects were neutralised during the exchange, while two others identified as Nura Sani and Abdul Bello were arrested. Other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds into the surrounding forest and hills,” the statement said.

“The operation led to the successful rescue of twenty (20) kidnapped victims comprising ten (10) males and ten (10) females who were earlier abducted from Byazhin District of the FCT, as well as Gauraka and Tafa areas of Niger State.”

“One AK-47 rifle with breech number 90-17147, one magazine loaded with twenty (20) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and one locally made firearm were recovered from the suspects. The rescued victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.”

“The Command also appeals to members of the press and other social media users to exercise patience when reporting sensitive security incidents such as kidnappings or ongoing rescue operations. Premature or unverified dissemination of such information can endanger the lives of victims and compromise the safety of officers actively involved in rescue missions.”

“While commending the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the operatives involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, urged residents of the FCT to remain calm, vigilant, and security conscious. He also urged them to promptly report suspicious persons or movements to the Command through the following emergency numbers 08032003913, 08061581938.”

The list of 20 victims rescued are; Olowa Tosin, Blessing Titi, Success Anthony, Victor Anthony, Angel Anthony, Flourish Anthony, Oniwola Ganiyu, Mercy Jafia and Bashir Umar (35 years).

Others are; Hannatu Yohanna, James Raphael, Danjuma Joy, Pastor Bulus Ganiyu, Abdulmumini Adamu, Abubakar Garba, Ruth Precious, Idris Ayuba, Damina Precious, Tanko Jeji and Isah Bello.
