The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced reconstruction works at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

In a travel advisory on Friday, FAAN urged passengers to allow extra time for their trips and to follow all traffic instructions to ensure smooth movement. The agency also advised travelers to park in designated areas and requested that only passengers visit the airport during the reconstruction period due to limited space.

“To ensure a smooth travel experience, we kindly request that passengers leave early for the airport to avoid missing flights, obey all traffic instructions to aid traffic flow, and park vehicles properly in designated car park areas,” FAAN said.

The agency thanked travelers for their understanding and cooperation during the works.

The reconstruction follows the federal executive council’s approval on August 1 of over N900 billion in aviation infrastructure contracts, including the full rehabilitation, upgrade, and modernisation of MMIA’s Terminal One.

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation, said the Lagos project will “strip the terminal down to its basic structure and rebuild all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.” He added that the project is budgeted at N712.25 billion and is expected to be completed within 22 months.
