The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered 585 fake A-level certificates in 2025 alone, with four suspects already arrested by the police.

This was disclosed by the Registrar of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a virtual closed-door meeting with JAMB staff held on April 2, 2025, in preparation for the 2025 Mock-UTME and UTME.

Oloyede condemned the alarming prevalence of fake A-level certificates, noting that the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPESDS) was established to curb this menace by managing and collecting data related to post-secondary education in the country.

He further revealed that 13 of the forged Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) certificates were uploaded by Professional Registration Centres, which are now under investigation. Out of these, four suspects have been apprehended and are currently assisting the police and relevant authorities in tracking down the ringleaders behind the examination malpractice syndicates. Oloyede also disclosed that investigations had uncovered internal collaborators within some institutions who were aiding and abetting the misconduct.

Additionally, the Registrar expressed concern over reports of extortion of candidates at some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for services that are supposed to be free. He described the situation as deeply troubling and warned that such practices could undermine the integrity of the Board.

He urged staff to remain committed to their duties and avoid any actions capable of tarnishing the reputation of the institution.
