In a YouTube video, Dr. Mo, (Moses Paul) a close associate of Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, revealed that Obi remains unbothered by critics like Reno Omokri, whom he described as “stomach-driven” individuals paid to tarnish his reputation.

The video, which has sparked widespread discussion, sheds light on the alleged monetization of political criticism in Nigeria and its impact on the nation’s civic discourse.

During the video, Dr. Mo recounted an encounter at an airport lounge, where he was approached by an individual who identified himself as working with the National Security Adviser (NSA). The man allegedly confirmed that a prominent critic of Peter Obi was being paid to castigate him. “Everything you see this person in question doing and castigating Mr. Peter Obi, he’s been paid to do it,” Dr. Mo quoted the NSA official as saying.

Dr. Mo expressed mixed feelings of sadness and frustration over the situation, particularly because the critic in question was once an aide to a former Nigerian president. He lamented that such actions are eroding the fabric of Nigeria’s political system, leaving younger generations confused about whom to trust or emulate.

“People are confused. You look at someone who called the president unprintable names like ‘drug lord,’ ‘bastard,’ and ‘idiot,’ and today, the same person is praising him. What message does this send to the younger generation?” Dr. Mo questioned. He emphasized that such behavior blurs the line between holding leaders accountable and engaging in mere sensationalism.

Dr. Mo also highlighted the importance of respecting the Office of the President, regardless of personal opinions about the individual occupying it. “I might never vote for someone as a person, but I respect the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is not something to joke with,” he stated.

He further criticized so-called patriotic leaders and thought leaders who have become “stomach-driven,” prioritizing personal gain over the nation’s welfare. According to Dr. Mo, Peter Obi is fully aware of these dynamics and chooses not to retaliate, often advising his supporters to remain calm in the face of provocation.

The video has ignited debates about the role of paid critics in Nigerian politics and the need for a more principled approach to political discourse. Many viewers have expressed concern over the long-term impact of such practices on Nigeria’s democracy and the moral compass of its youth.
