The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), on Wednesday night, convened its 11th physical meeting of 2024, focusing on several key issues.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, is scheduled to make presentations to the governors on constitutional amendments.

The constitutional amendments in Nigeria are spearheaded by the House of Representatives Constitution Review Committee, chaired by the Deputy Speaker.

This initiative aims to address longstanding issues within the 1999 Constitution, which has undergone several amendments since its inception.

Kalu, who has emphasised the need for reforms, had indicated that the committee was formed to facilitate comprehensive discussions and consensus on key constitutional debates.

The committee is tasked with reviewing 40 proposed alteration bills, with a deadline set for December 2025 to finalise its recommendations.

This marks the sixth attempt by the National Assembly to amend the constitution, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance governance and address public concerns about constitutional provisions.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, is also expected to make presentations at the meeting held at the NGF Secretariat.

Other expected updates include the Stamp Duty and Deloitte reports, as well as reconciliation efforts concerning the Excess Crude Account (ECA), Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT), and royalties.

Also on the agenda for discussion is the Africa Investment Forum (AIF) Market Days scheduled for 2024 in Morocco.
