The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State Branch, has announced the immediate suspension of the strike action that began on November 22, 2023.

The decision to suspend the strike was made following the directives of the National Executive Council of JUSUN, led by Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu, the National President of JUSUN.

According to a statement released by Comrade Oluwagbemiga Olakunle Eludire, the decision to suspend the strike action was made pursuant to a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed between the Government of Osun State, the Management of Osun State Judiciary, and the JUSUN leadership. The MoA outlined several conditions that have been either entirely or partially fulfilled, with any outstanding conditions deemed obligatory for prompt fulfillment to validate the course of action.

The statement further emphasized that there shall be no victimization of any form against any judicial officers or members of JUSUN for participating directly or indirectly in the strike action or as a result of the strike action. Additionally, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has been urged to convene a meeting within 7 days from the day of suspension of the strike to address other demands of the union, such as regularization and promotion of all qualified members of staff.

The decision to suspend the strike applies to all categories of workers within the Osun State judiciary. JUSUN expressed sincere gratitude to the State Government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, the State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Egbedun, The Speaker of the House for their contributions to the recalling of suspended members after close to 5 years, and the magnanimity of the State Government in paying the salaries that were wrongly deprived of those members. The union also expressed gratitude to the authority of the judiciary in the state led by Hon. Justice Adepele Ojo for heeding the voice of reason and recalling the five members after it had long been overdue.

Comrade Gbenga Kunle Eludire, on behalf of the National President and the entire members of JUSUN in Osun State, announced the immediate suspension of the strike action and directed members to resume duty on Monday, March 11, 2024.

The suspension of the strike action comes as a relief to the judiciary system in Osun State, which had been affected by the prolonged industrial action.

The resolution of the issues raised by JUSUN and the fulfillment of the conditions outlined in the MoA are expected to pave the way for a more conducive working environment and improved service delivery in the state’s judiciary.
