Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Justice Joy Unwana, a high court judge in Oron area of Akwa Ibom State, while killing her police orderly.

The judge and her driver were kidnapped on Monday evening along Uyo-Okobo road in Oron town, where she was presiding over a court case.

According to reports, the assailants waylaid Justice Unwana’s vehicle on her way back to Uyo after concluding the day’s sitting and took her and the driver away.

Her police escort was shot dead during the incident while trying to resist the abductors.

The chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Oron, Torosco Eyene, confirmed the abduction on Monday, saying the legal body will meet with security agencies on Wednesday over the incident.

Police authorities are yet to issue any statement on the kidnap of the judge and driver along the Uyo-Okobo highway in Oron LGA.

The abduction comes barely three weeks after a Court of Appeal judge was also kidnapped in Benin City, Edo state.

Security has been heightened in the affected area as effort is ongoing to ensure the release of the judge and driver from their abductors.
