Many Nigerians have expressed frustration over disruptions in making payments using Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) codes into Federal Government agencies in recent weeks.

Customers say they have been unable to complete financial transactions using RRR codes to pay bills and fees owed to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). Some narrated having to make repeated visits to their banks due to network issues when trying to make payments.

The Managing Director of Remita Payment Services Ltd (RPSL), Mr. Deremi Atanda explained that Remita comprises multiple components for collections into bank accounts or making payments by debiting bank accounts. He outlined possible reasons for disruptions as network failures in bank branches, technology glitches in applications, or breaks in transmission links.

While absolving Remita of direct responsibility in the recent incidents, Atanda advised merchants and MDAs facing persistent payment issues to provide details to Remita for further investigation. He said information such as affected bank branches and RRR codes could enable them to diagnose and resolve problems.

Atanda encouraged customers with unexpired RRR codes having troubles making payments to escalate such issues for urgent fixes. He assured that Remita was committed to seamless payments by customers into government agencies.
