Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has refuted reports that it prohibited the use of popular Ghana-Must-Go bags for air travelers.

According to FAAN, the policy restricting irregular packages was issued by Ethiopian Airlines as an internal airline decision.

In a memo to aviation authorities, Ethiopian Airlines explained that the ban on the sack bags was to curb damage to airport conveyor belts and minimize disruptions. The airline stated exceptions for Ghana-Must-Go bags properly packed in cartons.

FAAN dismissed attributions of the sack bag ban to itself, clarifying on social media that the memo originated from Ethiopian Airlines, not the Nigerian aviation regulator. It urged accuracy in further reportage.

The clarification puts to rest the controversy over purported banning of Ghana-Must-Go bags which sparked criticisms given their ubiquity and cultural symbolism.
