An investigation by Daily Trust has uncovered compromised driving standards at some Vehicle Inspection Offices (VIO) accredited driving schools in Abuja.

The undercover investigation revealed how driving instructors at the schools issue driving test certificates to applicants who paid bribes without undergoing training.
Some applicants were also aided to cheat during theory tests.
At one of the schools, the instructor collected N20,000 from the undercover reporter and issued him a Driver’s License test certificate without any training. The reporter only did an eye test and took photographs before being issued the certificate.
Similarly, another school compromised the standard by not properly training the journalist but aided him to pass the theory test through dubious means.
The findings exposed gaping holes in the licensing process where unqualified drivers can easily obtain certification documents through financial inducement.
Reacting to this, the FCT Director of VIO stated anyone found culpable will face sanctions as compromising driving standards endangers road users. He promised stricter enforcement at the affected schools.
The investigation has raised concerns over the integrity of driving tests and qualifications issued by some accredited schools in Abuja. The report underscored the need to sanitize the licensing process and enforce stricter regulations at VIO approved training centers in the FCT.
