Three people have been reportedly killed in Odiemere community, Rivers State during a security operation to apprehend killers of a police DPO.
The DPO of Ahoada Police Division, SP Bako Angbashim, was murdered last Friday by cultists terrorizing Akoh Kingdom. In response, Governor Similanayi Fubara mobilized security forces to find the perpetrators.
During the search in Odiemere on Sunday, witnesses allege three youths were shot dead by the security personnel as they fled at the sight of them. One died instantly while two others died in hospital.
Locals say the victims were not cultists but killed mistakenly. Odiemere residents have fled the area in fear of more violence.
In related news, the King of Akoh Kingdom, Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi, was arrested by DSS operatives for alleged complicity in the DPO’s murder. Ikegbidi was earlier suspended by Gov. Fubara for allowing criminals to operate freely.
The monarch is being interrogated at the State CID and his home and palace searched during investigations. But the police are yet to officially confirm these developments.
The security operation has resulted in apprehension in the affected Rivers communities as authorities seek to apprehend SP Angbashim’s killers.
