Startling revelations have emerged indicating that Hannatu Musawa, President Bola Tinubu’s Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, is reportedly still a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Human Rights Writers Association (Huriwa) Director Emmanuel Onwubiko issued a pointed statement alleging Minister Musawa is currently undertaking her NYSC service with registration number FC/23A/505 at a law firm in Wuse, Abuja.

Onwubiko’s scathing remarks claim the Minister, holder of the aforesaid NYSC registration number, is posted to a legal practice located in the Wuse vicinity of the Federal Capital Territory.

The controversy surrounding Musawa’s status in the NYSC program intensified after her nomination as a Ministerial candidate. During her Senate screening, she was granted the privilege of “taking a bow and going,” a practice that attracted scrutiny, given the lack of inquiry into her academic qualifications and the doubts surrounding her NYSC discharge certificate.

The statement further reveals that the 9th Senate had previously rejected Musawa’s nomination as a commissioner representing the Northwest at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM). Her inability to provide her NYSC certificate was cited as the reason for her rejection by the Senate led by Ahmed Lawan.

Onwubiko’s statement adds that Musawa had purportedly abandoned her NYSC duties in Ebonyi State in previous years, only to rejoin and complete the program after being mobilized in 2023, before being selected as a Ministerial nominee by President Tinubu.

These disclosures have cast a shadow on President Tinubu’s administration, which has been grappling with legitimacy concerns arising from the controversies surrounding his election. The lack of transparency in revealing Musawa’s true NYSC status to the public and the scrutiny procedures conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS) have also raised concerns.

Efforts to contact a government spokesperson for a response to this revelation have proven unsuccessful.

This development has ignited widespread discussions across the political landscape, raising questions about the integrity of the administration and the thoroughness of the nomination and screening processes.
