Irehovbude, who made this statement on Thursday, following the high number of cases on brutality and inhuman treatment lawyers get from security agencies, noted that the harassment and intimidation of members of the legal profession is very worrisome.
He said the recent outcry from members of the legal profession particularly as it concerns the incessant assault on lawyers by the Police, DSS and other security operatives in the country has forced many of us to think deeply on the current state of the legal profession and indeed how the profession and it’s members can be protected and regulated.
“There is the urgent need to put in place a framework aimed at putting an end to this ugly menace, facing members of the legal profession.
“We must confront those professionals and non-professionals who have continually trampled on the rights of lawyers, encroached on the work of lawyers and reclaim our workspace.
“The future of the profession, and our personal fortunes as lawyers, depends on us,” he added.
