*Says He Quit Partisan Politics In 2022

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign, saying he was neither consulted nor gave permission for his name to be published as part of the campaign structure.
Moghalu made the clarification in a statement on Thursday after Atiku’s African Democratic Congress presidential campaign unveiled its campaign structure and listed him among members of its Policy Team. The campaign announcement was also independently reported by several Nigerian news organisations.
Moghalu said he was surprised by the announcement and stressed that the listing did not represent his present political position.
“For the record:
“1. I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.
“2. I am NOT, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity,” he said.
The former CBN deputy governor further stated that he had withdrawn from partisan politics in Nigeria four years ago and had maintained a non-partisan position since then.
“I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs. I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” Moghalu said.
He explained that his current professional activities are focused on public policy, executive education, geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy rather than party politics.
Moghalu said he currently serves as President of IGET Africa, which he described as a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, and as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
He maintained that his continued interest in Nigeria’s development should not be interpreted as support for Atiku, the ADC or any other political party or candidate.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
The clarification came shortly after Atiku’s campaign announced its structure for the 2027 presidential election.
Under the structure, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam was named Chairman of the campaign council, while former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was named Deputy Chairman. Senator Austin Akobundu was appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager.
Economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen was named Chairman of the Policy Team, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi serving as Deputy Chairman. Moghalu’s name was included among the other members expected to work with the team.
The campaign said the policy team would develop practical responses to issues confronting Nigerians as part of Atiku’s 2027 campaign programme.
