The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed a temporary outage affecting its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), attributing the disruption to technical challenges associated with the platform’s hosting arrangements.

The confirmation followed complaints from candidates who said they had been unable to access CAPS for about a day, with some reporting failed page loads, redirects and messages indicating that the platform was unavailable.
In a statement issued on Thursday, JAMB said it had begun intensive engagement with the organisation responsible for hosting the platform and was working to restore full access as quickly as possible.
“JAMB wishes to inform candidates, institutions and all other users that the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is temporarily unavailable due to technical challenges associated with its hosting arrangements,” the Board said.
It added: “The Board has commenced intensive engagement with the hosting organisation and is working to restore the platform to full functionality as quickly as possible.”
JAMB acknowledged the importance of the platform, particularly at the current stage of the 2026 admission exercise when many candidates are checking their admission status and responding to offers from institutions.
“We recognise the importance of CAPS, particularly at this critical stage of the admission exercise, and regret the inconvenience this disruption may cause,” the statement said.
The Board assured candidates and institutions that efforts were ongoing to resolve the problem.
“Please be assured that we are working to resolve the issue and will provide further updates as developments unfold.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
The announcement came after several candidates took to social media, particularly X, to complain that they had been unable to access CAPS since Wednesday.
Some users said the platform failed to load completely, while others reported being redirected or seeing messages indicating that the site was unavailable.
Several candidates also tagged JAMB’s official X account, seeking clarification because they needed access to monitor their admission status or accept admission offers.
CAPS is the platform used by JAMB to process admissions into tertiary institutions. It allows candidates to monitor admission decisions and either accept or reject offers made to them.
The current disruption comes during the ongoing 2026 admission exercise, making access to the platform particularly important for candidates awaiting admission decisions.
Candidates have also previously reported slow loading and other technical difficulties with CAPS during periods of heavy admission activity.
JAMB, however, did not give a specific time for the restoration of the platform, saying only that it would provide further updates as the situation develops.
