The National Examinations Council has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination for school-based candidates, with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtaining at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday during a press conference at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Wushishi said the results were released 63 days after the examination ended on July 23, 2026.
According to him, 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 682,352 males and 695,696 females.
He said 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for the examination, comprising 678,903 males and 693,089 females.
The registrar disclosed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained five credits and above irrespective of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.
He added that 1,334 candidates with special needs participated in the examination.
On examination malpractice, Wushishi said 1,406 candidates were booked for various offences, compared with 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025.
The figures represent a reduction of approximately 63.7 per cent.
The registrar attributed the decline in malpractice to increased monitoring by members of the NECO Governing Board, management and senior officers, as well as the introduction of computer-based examinations.
He reiterated the council’s zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice, saying appropriate standards were maintained from the planning stage through the conduct of the examination and release of the results.
Wushishi also dismissed suggestions that NECO operated or recognised so-called “miracle centres.”
“We register centres and have criteria for which we register these centres. We don’t know miracle centres because we have only one school and we cannot be associated with miracle centres,” he said.
“If there are miracle centres, it is the state governments that established these miracle centres, or they are privately owned, but NECO does not believe in miracle centres.”
The registrar commended NECO workers for their professionalism, discipline and commitment to ensuring the credibility of the examination.
He also thanked security agencies for supporting the conduct of the examination and helping to protect its integrity.
Candidates can access their results through NECO’s official results portal by selecting the 2026 examination year and SSCE Internal examination type before entering their result-checking token and registration number.
