Members of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife have been paid their January salary.

Other categories of workers in the university were also paid.

Before workers started receiving notification of payments late Thursday, ASUU Chairman, OAU branch, Dr Adeola Egbedokun, through a text message sent to our correspondent, had said the union would activate ‘no pay, no work’, if the Federal Government failed to pay its members.

But Egbedokun in a chat on Friday said ASUU members had received their January salary.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that our salaries were paid today. I got mine at about 1.22am today Friday,” Egbedokun informed our correspondent via a text message.

Also, the Chairman, Nigeria University Administrative and Technical Staff Union, OAU, Ile Ife chapter, Wole Odewumi, also confirmed to our correspondent that workers in the university had started receiving their January salary.
