Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission have questioned Toyin Zaccheus Okoro, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ekiti South West/Ikere/Ise-Orun Federal Constituency in the 2027 election, over allegations bordering on fraud, conflict of interest and breaches of public service rules.

Okoro’s candidacy is reflected in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final list for the 2027 House of Representatives election, which identifies him as the APC candidate for the constituency.
Okoro, a former Senior Legislative Aide to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, reportedly appeared at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday following a formal invitation dated September 7, 2026.
According to reports, he arrived at the commission’s headquarters at about 2 p.m., waited for roughly 30 minutes and was taken into an interrogation room at about 2:40 p.m.
He was questioned by investigators for more than two hours before being released on bail at about 5 p.m. and was reportedly asked to return to the commission for further questioning.
The invitation, reportedly signed by Oshinyemi Oluwaseun, Head of the ICPC Special Duty Team, on behalf of the commission’s chairman, said investigators were examining suspected violations of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
“Pursuant to Sections 28 & 40 of the above cited Act, you are kindly required to appear before the undersigned at the Commission’s headquarters, Abuja on 17 September 2026 by 10am prompt,” the notice reportedly stated.
It added that Okoro was free to attend with “a lawyer or any individual of your choice.”
At the centre of the investigation are allegations that Okoro maintained an interest in and operated a private company while serving as a Senior Legislative Aide at the National Assembly, allegedly contrary to applicable public service rules.
Investigators are also reportedly examining claims that he used his position as a public servant to facilitate public contracts for the company from government institutions, including the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure.
Another allegation under investigation is that Okoro continued to receive salaries and allowances from the National Assembly while allegedly remaining the beneficial owner of the private company.
It was further alleged that after questions were raised about the arrangement and complaints were made to anti-graft agencies, documents relating to his resignation from the company were falsified or backdated in an attempt to address the allegations.
Investigators are also said to be looking into claims concerning information contained in Okoro’s submissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission, following alleged discrepancies between those declarations and records held by the Corporate Affairs Commission and the National Assembly.
The allegations have not been established by a court, and Okoro has not been convicted of any offence arising from them. The ICPC investigation remains ongoing.
The controversy surrounding Okoro’s candidacy had surfaced earlier in the year when questions were raised about his alleged involvement with a private company while working as a National Assembly aide. The APC in Ekiti also became involved in a separate dispute over reports concerning his candidacy during the party’s primary process.
INEC’s subsequently published final list, however, names Okoro Toyin Zaccheus as the APC candidate for the Ekiti South West/Ikere/Ise-Orun Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.
As of the latest reports, Okoro had not publicly responded to the specific allegations being investigated by the ICPC.
