The delay, the Police said, has been on account of the rank of the officer, a Superintendent of Police in charge of surveillance in one of the divisions at the Federal Capital Territory. The Police added that it has commenced processes for the dismissal of the errant officer. The 31-year-old lady was shot dead in her 2007 Honda Accord car in Katampe District area of Abuja on October 13, 2018. Giving an update on the case in Abuja on Monday, the Force spokesman, Moshood Jimoh, stated that the errant officer, who was undergoing disciplinary process, would soon be dismissed. He said, “The Police officer is still undergoing disciplinary process. I won’t be able to tell you his name yet, but he is a superior Police officer and is also the head of surveillance in a division in Abuja. “He is still under detention and as we speak, the Police have reprimanded him and we have sent a request for his dismissal from the Force to the appropriate quarters because the process of dismissing an officer is more tedious than the rank and file because the processes are longer. “You have to query the officer, he has to reply, you have to report and look at what his reply is. But there is no justification for taking another person’s life,” Jimoh noted. The Police insisted that it was better to allow 100 suspects to escape than to kill an innocent person, adding that the authorities were also probing the culpability of other policemen who were at the crime scene during the incident. He said, “Some Police officers were with him too. So, the Police are trying to know the level of their culpability or innocence in the matter in order not to punish innocent people. “The process is ongoing and once he is dismissed, we are going to parade him before the public.”]]>
