Telecom operator 9mobile has officially rebranded to T2, replacing its iconic green branding with a bold orange look.
The unveiling took place at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos during the company’s “Tech Meets Tenacity” event, which drew a large audience of industry stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer Obafemi Banigbe said the transformation reflects the company’s renewed ambition to lead Nigeria’s telecom sector.
“This change is necessary for us to give our best. We are not playing catch-up, but to lead in the industry,” Banigbe declared.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, was among those present, applauding the company’s renewed vision. The night was hosted by entertainment icon Darey Art Alade and featured performances by several music stars.
Once a major player under the name Etisalat Nigeria, the company peaked at about 22 million subscribers between 2014 and 2016. However, the exit of its initial investors triggered financial difficulties, infrastructure setbacks, and a steep decline in its customer base down to about 3.2 million subscribers as of January 2025.
In a bid to bounce back, the company recently signed a national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria to expand coverage and improve service quality.
Founded in 2007 under Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Ltd. (EMTS), the network first operated as Etisalat Nigeria before rebranding to 9mobile in 2017. The latest shift to T2 marks what the company describes as a new chapter of innovation, customer focus, and industry leadership.
