Welfare Committee Chairperson, Y.C. Maikyau, SAN, Appointed As Chairperson, Law Week Planning Committee, For NBA Unity Bar Branch.

The newly appointed Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association [NBA] Welfare Committee, Mr. Y. C. Maikyau, SAN, has been appointed by his Branch [The Unity Bar] as its Chairperson, Law Week Planning Committee. The appointment of Mr. Maikyau, SAN, was recently announced by the Unity Bar Chairperson, Dr. Hauwa Shekarau.

Accordingly, the learned silk would, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Law Bar Week, would be expected to deliver a world-class law week for the Abuja branch. A feat which has already been actualized in similar responsibility, such as his recent experience of Chairing the 2020 Conference Planning Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, which Online Conference [first of its kind in the Institute’s history] is widely acclaimed as highly successful.

As Chairperson of the Welfare Committee, at the National level, Maikyau, SAN, would see to the actualization and implementation of the Olumide Akpata’s welfare agenda for the Bar, especially young lawyers. Like as his hosting skills, this form of responsibility would not be his first, as a key member of the Paul Usoro led administration’s Covid-19 welfare committee, the committee was able to raise millions of Naira to support lawyers in disadvantage position and those adversely affected by the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.

Under this new role, he would be expected to, implement the NBA Life Assurance Policy being brokered by the NBA administration, to be potentially accessed by lawyers, as well as the administration’s free health insurance scheme that is currently being fine-tuned to cover 1,000 legal practitioners.
