*Says Nigeria Need To Focus On Education, Industry And Agriculture.
*Says Nigeria`s Biggest Failure Is Not Implementing Plans.

The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki has called on Nigerians and the Country`s leadership to focus on increasing on the growth of internal revenue and this can only be done through tapping in the human resources of the country and not oil resources that the country is hinged on.

Obaseki said this while addressing the delegates at the NBA-AGC currently holding at the Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. First, the governor commended the TCCP for organizing a gathering which he tagged as the ‘largest gathering of black lawyers in the world’, stating that the theme was very significant in dealing with national issues.

Speaking about the significance of the theme, and his view point on what the ‘Bold Transition’ constituted, the Governor opined that oil has caused what he tagged as patriotic shame. “I say this because as a people and as a country we seem to be defined by oil” he said.

According to the Governor, Nigeria transited to an oil economy after the civil war and that a transition to another kind of driven economy was long overdue. He stated that now Nigeria should focus on the need to increase the growth of internal revenue. On how this could be achieved, the Governor stated that Nigeria had to tap into its human resources which we could use to develop the following areas; education, industry, agriculture and forestation.

He stated that the Edo State Government was already working on this. “We are restructuring the Education system we are giving to our children. We are also making infrastructure restructuring, and fortunately we are a hub; you cannot go to the east or the west without going through us; and we are restructuring to unleash economic activities.” He spoke.

He continued thus: “We are also focusing of agriculture and currently have over 120,000 hectares of land under consideration for agriculture. Forestation is also key, and Nigeria suffers from deforestation and we at Edo State are making deliberate efforts towards growing trees and tapping into these resources”

The Governor opined that the biggest transition was constitutional requirement stating that 36 segmented states could not co-exist unless the constitution was restructured.

On a final note, the Governor reminded delegates that in increasing internal revenue, there is need to the constituents of GDP which should be agriculture, infrastructure, education and forestry resources.
