Chief Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Bencher, is set to be conferred with the prestigious honorary chieftaincy title of Ogohi Ata-Igala (Dooga) by His Royal Majesty, Dr. Matthew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, CFR, the Ata’Igala and President of the Kogi State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The coronation ceremony is scheduled to hold today, Friday, April 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Ata Igala Palace in Idah, Kogi State.

The title of Ogohi Ata-Igala (Dooga) is a prestigious honour within the Igala traditional institution, conferred on distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities, professions, and the nation at large.

The conferment by the Attah Igala, the paramount ruler of the Igala Kingdom, represents one of the highest traditional honours that can be bestowed on an individual within the kingdom.

Chief Jibrin Samuel Okutepa is one of Nigeria’s most prominent legal practitioners and public commentators on legal and constitutional matters.

He was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the highest honour in the Nigerian legal profession, in recognition of his distinguished career at the Bar.

Okutepa also holds the prestigious title of Bencher, signifying his membership of the Body of Benchers the highest body responsible for the formal call to the Nigerian Bar and the maintenance of professional ethics among legal practitioners in Nigeria.

Throughout his career, Okutepa has been known for his fearless advocacy on issues of constitutional law, human rights, and good governance. He has been a consistent voice calling for reforms in the legal profession and the judiciary, and has not shied away from criticising developments he considers inimical to the rule of law and democratic principles.

According to the invitation, a reception will follow immediately after the coronation ceremony at the School of Health Technology, Convocation Square, Idah, Kogi State.

The event is expected to attract legal luminaries, traditional rulers, political figures, and well-wishers from across Nigeria.

The conferment of the Ogohi Ata-Igala title on Chief Okutepa SAN represents a recognition of his contributions not only to the legal profession but also to the broader Nigerian society.

For the Igala Kingdom, honouring a distinguished son who has attained the pinnacle of the legal profession reflects the traditional institution’s commitment to celebrating excellence and encouraging younger generations to strive for distinction in their chosen fields.

For Chief Okutepa, the chieftaincy title adds a traditional dimension to a career already marked by professional achievement, positioning him as both a legal luminary and a recognised figure within the traditional governance structure of Igala land.

TheNigeriaLawyer congratulates Chief Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, SAN, Bencher, on this well-deserved honour.
