Prince Tajudeen Olusi, an elder statesman and one of the South-West leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who visited President Muhammadu Buhari last Friday has said the visit was not about 2023 election.

Olusi, along with a former national chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba and Dr Abayomi Finnih, had last week visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

However, they did not brief the press on the purpose of their visit.

A PDP leader in Lagos, Chief Olabode George, had stirred the hornet’s nest on Saturday when he said the visit was to plead with the president to support the presidential ambition of APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

But speaking with Daily Trust, Not TheNigerialawyer Olusi said contrary to the speculation in some quarters, the visit was not about 2023.

“We are concerned about peace and stability of the country. We want jobs for our teeming youth. We want President Buhari to support our government in the South-West. This is our concern and not 2023,” he said.

Olusi specifically disclosed that the APC leaders made a case for special intervention for Lagos State which suffered massive destruction during the recent #EndSARS protest.

He however insisted that Tinubu, like every other Nigerian, is entitled to the presidency if he decides to contest, saying he has not only invested heavily on the party but has the competence, connection and experience to lead the country.

Olusi said the criticism of Tinubu by George was out of envy and re-enacting old scores.

“The man (Bode George) is free to say what he likes. Since the #EndSARS protest started, he has been criticising Asiwaju. I’m sure you know that…,” he said.

Olusi reiterated that the visit to the villa was to discuss issues of national interest.
