National Identification Number

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has disclosed the required documents for individuals in Nigeria seeking to update their National Identity Number (NIN) details.

In a post on the NIMC X’s handle on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, the commission outlined the required documents for modifying personal information such as date of birth, name, address, or phone number.

Here are the documents Required for Data Modification

DATE OF BIRTH

Documents required

  • Digitalized NPC Attestation Certificate for those born before 1992.
  • Digitalized NPC Birth Certificate for those born after 1992

Steps 

  • For both categories, only the digitalized documents are required.
  • The applicants must apply for these certificate via NPC self-service site and not the manual papaer document.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS

Any of the listed Documents below

  • Utillty bill
  •  Tenancy agreement
  • Community leaders attestation letter

CHANGE OF NAME

Documents

  • Court affidavit
  • Newspaper extract
  • Marriage certificate in the case of marital status
  • Other government ID

PHONE NUMBER

Document required: Police report

Steps

The applicant should not add a zero before his/her number to avert the error issue of having double zeros in front of the phone number. Eg. +2348012345678 and not +234 08012345678. Adding a zero in front causes the double zero issue which 008012345678
