The All Progressives Congress(APC) has tasked former Kaduna State Governor and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress(ADC), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to shelve political campaigns and wait for 2027 before unfolding a media war against the ruling party.

National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, gave the admonition on Sunday while speaking with Tribune Online in a telephone interview.

Basiru was reacting to remarks attributed to El-Rufai on Saturday in Sokoto state, where the latter was addressing ADC faithful in the North-West state as part of the opposition party’s grassroots mobilisation.

El-Rufai had warned Nigerians to be wary of voting APC in the next presidential election, as he claimed that the nation would find it difficult to survive another four years under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said:” I didn’t join politics to enrich myself but to serve. When leadership fails the people, it becomes the duty of every patriotic citizen to stand up and act. That’s what I’m doing and I will not stop..

“If we allow APC to continue, the little that remains of our national cohesion may be destroyed. This is not just an election, it’s the fight of our lives.”

But reacting on Sunday, the APC National Secretary urged the former Kaduna State Governor to find a job to keep himself busy ahead next general elections.

He noted that guidelines for the 2027 general elections would not be unveiled until February 2026 and wondered why the former Kaduna State Governor should start to dissipate energy on an electoral process that is two years away.

He said, ” Why is he in a hurry? 2027 is far. The guidelines for the 2027 elections won’t be out until February 2026. El Rufai should go and find a job to do.

“He can go back to school to enrich his knowledge, or play with his grandchildren. We are too busy fixing our party, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is busy with governance. He should not distract us. “
