The University of Port Harcourt has distance itself from a randy lecturer caught on camera molesting a female student in his office.

The lecturer whose identity is yet to be ascertained, could be seen in a 51 minutes amateur viral video circulating on social media touching the breasts of a young female student.

Many netizans who reacted to the viral video on Monday had suggested that the incident happened at the Facility of Engineering, University of Port Harcourt.

Our correspondent who also saw the short viral video, observed the young female whose identity is yet unknown resisting the lecturer by pushing his hand away from her body, a reaction that indicates her disapproval of the lecturer’s sexual advances.

Reacting to the development, the University in a statement signed by its Head of Information, Publications and Public Relations, Dr. Sam Kpenu, on Monday stated that the insinuations were false and baseless

Dr. Kpenu noted that the University after conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, confirmed that the alleged incident did not happen within the premises of the University of Port Harcourt, neither was any of the university staff involved in the incident.

Kpenu said, “It has come to our attention that false allegations have been circulating regarding a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) being involved in a molestation incident with a student in his office.

“We wish to categorically state that these allegations are entirely untrue and baseless.

“First and foremost, there has been no reported incident of such nature involving any faculty member at UniPort.

“Furthermore, after conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, it has been confirmed that the alleged incident did not take place within the premises of UniPort or involve any of its staff members, He added.

Kpenu further stated that while the university condemns any form of misconduct, members of the public and the media must be cautioned for publishing and sharing misinformation about the university.

“As an institution committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism, UniPort condemns any form of misconduct, especially those involving the safety and well-being of our students. We remain dedicated to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for all members of our academic community.

“We urge the public and the media to exercise caution and refrain from spreading false information that can tarnish the reputation of individuals and institutions unjustly.

He added, “In this era of rampant misinformation, it is imperative to verify the authenticity of news before sharing it with others.

“UniPort remains steadfast in its commitment to truth, fairness, and justice, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure the protection and welfare of our students, faculty, and staff.”
